Smoky Hill Rotarian, Mark Johnson,
is joined by one of the Century Elementary Student after shopping
for school supplies and school clothes as assistance to families
who needed a helping hand.
Appreciation
goes to the many partners that helped make this event possible,
including the Aurora Education Foundation, Century Elementary
School, Wal-Mart and of course Smoky Hill Rotary Club members
(plus their family and friends).
Smiles were seen
everywhere and all of the Special Kids were ready to start their
first day of school with something else on their minds other then
what to wear and whether or not they have a backpack!

Dateline Aurora August 16, 2003
On this beautiful
Saturday morning, thirty-six children from families of Century
Elementary School in Aurora arrived at the Super Wal-Mart store at
Hampden and Yosemite. They were met by 34+ energized Smoky
Hill Rotarians plus Rotarian family and friends to shop for
school supplies, school clothes, shoes and items that would help
these students be ready for the start of school..
First there were
donuts and drinks supplied by the Wal-Mart bakery.
Then for more than two hours the Rotarians, each with prepared
lists provided by teachers at Century, went shopping for school
clothes and supplies with the families.
Once the shopping
was done, it was off to a special check stand where their
purchases were all added up! Then, the Smoky
Hill Rotary Club Foundation treasurer wrote the check for more
than $4700!
